INDIANAPOLIS — The second big crash of Thursday's Indianapolis 500 practice session has caught out the 2022 winner.
Around 3:50 p.m. Thursday, May 16, Marcus Ericsson was running practice laps when the car snapped around in turn four and slammed the outside SAFER Barrier right in front of a pack of cars.
The Swede spun down to the inside of the race track and hit the inside wall, which then propelled him back out toward the race track, and he struck the pit wall attenuator.
Thankfully, no other cars were involved.
Ericsson climbed out of his car under his own power, but the No. 28 Andretti Global Honda will need to undergo extensive repairs to get it ready for Fast Friday and this weekend's qualifications.
IndyCar later announced Ericsson was checked and released from the infield care center.
Earlier in the day, rookie Linus Lundqvist crashed in the exit of turn 2 and slid down the track into the infield grass. He was also uninjured.
