SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Another "American Idol" winner is performing ahead of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
One day after IMS announced Jordin Sparks would sing the national anthem ahead of the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, IMS confirmed Phillip Phillips will sing "God Bless America" before the race on Sunday, May 26.
"The performance of 'God Bless America,' on Memorial Day Weekend Sunday, is one of the most important tributes to our country and is an often-heard tradition of the pre-race ceremonies," IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. "Adding Phillip and his voice to the pre-race festivities will round out his weekend of participating in the 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing' after having been in the 500 Festival parade and performing at The Vogue the night before the race."
As Boles mentioned, Phillips will perform as part of the opening production at the 2024 AES 500 Festival Parade on Saturday, May 25.
Parade festivities will start at 11:45 a.m., with the parade starting at noon. The celebration will feature floats, huge balloons, marching bands from across the country, celebrities and the 33 drivers competing in the Indy 500.
The theme of this year's parade is "Iconic Moments in Indy," to celebrate the city's history.
Phillips, who won "American Idol" in 2012, will perform his music on stage alongside the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and Indiana Pacemates.
Tickets for the event cost $25. To get yours, click here. Proceeds from all 500 Festival ticketed events help support the organization’s free programming and events for Indiana youth and college students.
The celebration will air on WTHR Channel 13 and nationally on Peacock.
Phillips will also perform at The Vogue in Broad Ripple that Saturday night.
Tickets, which start at $20, can be purchased here. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the concert starts at 9 p.m.
