SPEEDWAY, Ind. — For the first time since 2020, The Greatest Spectacle in Racing will air live on TV in central Indiana.
Following a rain delay, the 2024 Indianapolis 500 will be broadcast live on WTHR Channel 13 in the Indianapolis market.
The race, originally scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. May 26 and air on delay at 7 p.m. in central Indiana, was delayed as a line of strong storms moved through central Indiana.
Shortly after 2 p.m., IMS posted on social media that lightning had cleared around Speedway. Gates at the track have reopened, and fans can return to the grandstands.
Live NBC pre-race coverage will begin at 3 p.m. ET on WTHR Channel 13. Cars will be pushed out to the grid at 3:30 p.m., with driver intros at 3:48 p.m. and the green flag estimated for 4:44 p.m.
