INDIANAPOLIS — Hardwood history is being made here in Indianapolis.
The women's basketball team at Marian University has a new all-time leading scorer, and the Knights are having quite a season.
If you haven't been paying attention to this team, it's time to start doing so.
Marian women's basketball is breaking records. They're eyeing a national title and now they have the all-time leading scorer in program history on the roster. Danville native Elle Collier, a senior, has eclipsed the 2,000-point mark.
"This was a goal of mine coming into Marian, being recruited by Katie Geralds. That's the one of the first things she told me, she's like, 'You're coming here to break this record,' so finally being able to accomplish that, it means a lot to me," said Collier.
"Her work ethic on the court, off the court is is amazing," said head coach Steve Brooks. "I mean, she represents the university in every possible aspect of what you would want out of a student athlete. And it's just ... it's been fun and it's been a blessing to be a part of."
Collier has fueled the Knights to 19 straight wins - undefeated in the Crossroads League - and a 21-1 overall record. The focus, the only goal, is a national title for the first time since 2017.
"We all know to win a championship, but we're taking it one step at a time," Collier said. "We haven't hit our peak yet, but you're not supposed to hit your peak until, you know, closer to the end of the season, so I think we're on a good track, though."
"Good, bad, indifferent, anybody can beat anybody on a given day and we got to come ready because we're seeing everybody's best game, and so it's important that we come ready to go," said Brooks.
Keep an eye out for the Knights as they charge on to make history this season.
