BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University's head football coach Curt Cignetti was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, IU Athletics said in a news release Tuesday.

Cignetti earned the Hayes-Schembechler Big Ten Coach of the Year from the conference coaches and the Dave McClain Coach of the Year from the media.

This is the fourth time in Cignetti's career that he earned coach of the year accolades from the conference office.

The first time was in 2012 when he was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the second time was in 2017 when he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year and the third time was in 2023 when he was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year.

Greg Campbell, a spokesperson with IU Athetics, said Cignetti is third Indiana head coach to win the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award. Bill Mallory won it in 1987 and Tom Allen won it in 2020.

This is Cignetti's first year coaching the Hoosiers. The 11 wins this season are the most in program history and are also the first double-digit win season in IU's history, Campbell said.

On Nov. 16, Indiana University and Cignetti agreed to terms on a new eight-year contract that will start on Dec. 1, 2024 and end on Nov. 30, 2032.

According to court documents obtained by 13News, the contract will have an average compensation of $8 million and an annual base salary of $500,000. The contract also includes a $1 million retention bonus.
