How to get tickets to a potential IU home playoff game

As it currently stands, Indiana would host a first-round game in the College Football Playoff next month.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — With possibly the biggest game in school history on the horizon, Indiana University is also preparing for a potentially historic postseason.

The Hoosiers are ranked fifth in both the AP poll and the College Football Playoff rankings this week, as they prepare to travel to Columbus to face No. 2 Ohio State. 

Indiana's current ranking would earn the undefeated Hoosiers a home game in the first round of the 12-team College Football Playoff next month. While the top four seeded teams earn byes into the CFP quarterfinals, teams No. 5-8 will host games on their campus.

This week's rankings would see the Hoosiers host Alabama at Memorial Stadium.

To prepare for the possibility of playoff football in Bloomington, Indiana posted information about tickets for the first-round game, which will be held at either 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 or during one of three time slots starting at noon on Saturday, Dec. 21.

According to IU's ticketing website, and an email sent to ticketholders, the general public will be able to purchase up to eight tickets to the game, if it happens. Students will be able to purchase one ticket. 

Tickets range from $250 for seats in the lower prime sections, down to $100 each in the upper ends of Memorial Stadium. Student tickets are $25. 

  • Lower Prime: $250 (Sections 5-8, 25-28)
  • Lower Side: $200 (Sections 2-5, 8-12, 24-25, 28-31)
  • Lower Ends: $160 (Sections 1-2, 11-15)
  • Upper Sides: $150 (Sections 104-109)
  • Upper Ends: $100 (Sections 101-104, 109-112)
  • Students: $25

The university said ticket requests will be filled using the IU Priority Point System, which awards points to fans based on donations, season ticket purchases and other criteria. 

After the Nov. 23 showdown with the Buckeyes, the Hoosiers return home to close the regular season in the annual Old Oaken Bucket game against rival Purdue on Nov. 30.

The CFP rankings are released on Tuesday each week, with the final 12-team bracket unveiled on Sunday, Dec. 8. Winners of the first-round games will face one of the top four teams in the country in the Fiesta, Peach, Rose or Sugar bowls on Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

The Orange and Cotton bowls will host semifinal games on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10, with the CFP National Championship game scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
