BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The historic season for the Indiana Hoosiers continued Tuesday night with a rise in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Hoosiers, who defeated Michigan 20-15 Saturday for their school record 10th win of the season, are fifth in the latest CFP rankings revealed Tuesday night.
The ranking means if the playoff started today, Indiana would host a first-round game against Alabama.
The Hoosiers, who are also ranked fifth in this week's AP poll, are off this week before facing Ohio State at noon on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Columbus. The Buckeyes are ranked second in the newest CFP rankings.
Notre Dame is ranked eighth in the latest rankings and would be seeded ninth, playing at Tennessee if the playoff started this week.
The top four ranked conference champions will earn byes in the playoff bracket. The remaining eight teams will play each other at the home stadium of the higher-ranked team.
Five conference champions earn a spot in the playoff, meaning Boise State, which is ranked 13th, would be seeded 12th and play at Ohio State in the first round.
The CFP committee will rank the top 25 teams in the nation weekly through the end of the regular season, with the final rankings released Sunday, Dec. 8.
