Franklin Township youth football renames field to honor late official

Kevin Lewis, a longtime basketball and football official, lost his battle with cancer in April.

INDIANAPOLIS — A local youth sports league is remembering a basketball and football official who died earlier this year.

The Franklin Township Youth Football League has renamed one of its fields to the "Kevin Lewis North Field."

Lewis was an advocate for young people, but lost his battle with cancer on April 19. Organizers say the community is still feeling his loss.

"He was a fixture in the community, everyone knew him, and seeing his name on this field is quite an honor," said one of the attendees.

Lewis was named "Official of the Year" in 2024 and was also the inaugural winner of the Commissioner's Award from the IHSAA honoring his years of service to youth sports.
