CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — Five people, including a firefighter, were hospitalized after a fire Sunday morning at a Connersville apartment complex.
It was reported around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Towne Terrace Apartments in the 3500 block of North Grand Avenue, near West 35th Street.
First responders received initial reports that multiple people were trapped in second-story apartments, and Connersville Fire Department crews found that fire from a first-story apartment was spreading to the apartment above.
Crews then began attacking the fire and searched all eight apartments in the building, finding no one left inside.
A person from the apartment where the fire started was found standing outside and flown to Eskenazi Burn Center in Indianapolis, the fire department said in a statement.
Two people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries from jumping from second-floor balconies before fire crews arrived, and another person was transported for smoke inhalation.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
"Firefighters did an excellent job containing the fire to the 2 units and preventing spread to the remainder of the building," the department said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
