INDIANAPOLIS — The top-ranked Oregon Ducks have clinched a spot in the Big Ten championship game.
The Big Ten announced Tuesday that after extensive evaluation, there were “no conditions whereby the Ducks do not finish No. 1 or No. 2” in the conference.
The league championship is set for Dec. 7 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Oregon (11-0, 8-0) has a bye this weekend after a 16-13 victory at Wisconsin on Saturday. The Ducks finish out the regular season against visiting Washington on Nov. 30.
It is Oregon's first season in the Big Ten. The Ducks, the Huskies, USC and UCLA all left the Pac-12 under conference realignment.
Oregon is one of just three undefeated teams left in the country this season, in addition to No. 5 Indiana and No. 18 Army.
This weekend will go a long way toward determining the Ducks' opponent in the title game. The undefeated Hoosiers travel to Columbus to face No. 2 Ohio State Saturday at noon. The Buckeyes' only loss came to Oregon on Oct. 12.
Ohio State also handed No. 4 Penn State its only loss on Nov. 12.
After their matchup Saturday, the Hoosiers and Buckeyes will finish the season against their rivals, Purdue and Michigan, respectively. The Boilermakers are 1-9 this season and winless in Big Ten play, while the Wolverines are 5-5 and just 3-4 in conference games.
Penn State has Minnesota (6-4, 4-3) and Maryland (4-6, 1-6) left on their schedule.
