INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana has long been known for its love of basketball. Now, fans will have the chance to see their favorite local players in action over the next two months.
Kyle Guy, who was named Mr. Basketball in Indiana in 2016, is the man behind the Dizzy Runs Pro-Am.
And while summertime is the offseason for a lot of athletes, including professional basketball players, the Dizzy Runs games are bringing high-level games to Indiana gyms right now.
This year marks the third go-around for Guy to host the Dizzy Runs Pro-Am.
"We allow college and high school players to play. A lot of college guys go on to be professional guys or overseas or whatever it is. All we try to do is put on a show for you guys, the fans. Indiana is the basketball capital of the world," Guy said.
The league runs for six weeks and consists of seven teams. Games are played on Tuesdays, and a championship is set for Aug. 2.
In the past, all of the games took place in Noblesville. That's not the case this year.
"This year, what we're trying to do is visit different high school gyms across the state," Guy said. "We're hitting the whole belt around 465 north, east, south, west."
To kick off this year's games, they settled on Guy's alma mater, Lawrence Central High School. Different gyms in Indiana translates to plenty of opportunities for you to see high level offseason basketball, and it's completely free.
Guy said Indiana's Tyrese Haliburton would be making an appearance this year but just as a spectator this time, as he gears up for the Olympics.
