INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Carmel built up a 17-point lead through three quarters and held on for a 20-17 victory over error-prone Center Grove in the Class 6-A high school football championship game Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Trojans took a 3-0 lead on an Austin Watson 22-yard field goal to cap their opening drive. But three fumbles and an interception on their next four possessions gave Carmel the opening to build a 13-3 halftime lead.
Zach White's ten yard touchdown run late in the third quarter put the Greyhounds up 20-3.
Center Grove sophomore Tayven Jackson completed 11 of 12 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the final quarter to cut the lead to 3 before Carmel recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.
Center Groveβs Jalen Goines was named Eskew Mental Attitude Award recipient.
Western Boone repeats 2A state championship
The Stars rolled to a 44-7 win over Eastbrook in a rematch of last year's title game.
Robby Taylor scored three touchdowns and Connor Hole two in WeBo's win.
