No. 3 Lutheran powers past Heritage Christian 49-7, advancing in Sectional 37 | Operation Football

Lutheran is scheduled to play Cardinal Ritter in the second round of sectionals on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS — You can take the Lutheran Saints out of Class 1A, but they're still the same football powerhouse. They proved that once again on Friday night.

During the first round of Sectional 37, Lutheran easily handled the Heritage Christian Eagles 49-7 to advance themselves into the next round of the postseason.

Lutheran controlled the game from the opening kickoff. Senior quarterback Jackson Willis got things started for the Saints with a quick 3-yard touchdown to put Lutheran up 6-0 about halfway through the first quarter.

The Saints' second score of the night came off a 74-yard run from senior running back D'Marco Wilson early in the second quarter. Quarterback Jackson Willis then snuck in late in the first half for his second rushing touchdown of the night.

Willis and Wilson then combined for another touchdown pass, this time for 18 yards, to put Lutheran up 27-0.

Heritage Christian finally got on the board with just seconds left in the first half when junior quarterback Eli Nix found junior Aidan Lyon in the end zone for a 28-yard touchdown pass. At halftime, Lutheran held a commanding 27-7 lead.

In the second half, Heritage Christian just looked gassed. The Eagles could not keep up with the Saints as Lutheran scored twice more in the third quarter before D'Marco Wilson ran in the final dagger late in the game to give Lutheran a 49-7 win over Heritage Christian.

Heritage Christian finishes their season with a 7-3 record.

Lutheran moves to 9-1 overall on the season and is set to play Cardinal Ritter in the second round of Sectional 37 on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
