How the top-ranked IHSAA football teams fared in Week 2 | Operation Football

Here is a class-by-class breakdown of how all the top-ranked teams in the IFCA Coaches Poll fared during the week of Aug. 30, 2024.

INDIANAPOLIS — The second week of the 31st season of Operation Football saw rain and thunderstorms put a damper on some of the more highly-anticipated games of the week. 

Even the Game of the Week between Carmel and Westfield had to be suspended at halftime due to heavy rain and lightning. It was completed the following day.

Here is a class-by-class breakdown of how all the top-ranked teams in the IFCA Coaches Poll fared during the week of Aug. 30, 2024:

CLASS 6A

  • No. 1 Westfield defeated No. 5 Carmel 17-13.
  • No. 2 Brownsburg defeated No. 3 Cathedral 30-14.
  • No. 4 Warren Central defeated 5A No. 5 Warsaw 34-0.
  • No. 6 Crown Point defeated Arizona College Prep (AZ) 42-7.
  • No. 7 Ben Davis lost to Avon 29-28 in 2OT.
  • No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern defeated North Central 49-26.
  • No. 9 Center Grove defeated Fort Wayne Carroll 28-14.
  • No. 10 Lawrence North defeated Fort Wayne North Side 34-13.

CLASS 5A

  • No. 1 Merrillville defeated Hobart 36-0.
  • No. 2 East Central lost to Harrison (OH) 35-28.
  • No. 3 Whiteland did not play. Next game: Sept. 6 at Decatur Central.
  • No. 4 Valparaiso defeated 2A No. 7 Andrean 28-21.
  • No. 5 Warsaw lost to 6A No. 4 Warren Central 34-0.
  • No. 6 Decatur Central did not play. Next game: Sept. 6 vs. Whiteland.
  • No. 7 Bloomington South lost to Martinsville 41-35.
  • No. 8 Castle lost to 3A No. 9 Evansville Mater Dei 28-24.
  • No. 9 Lafayette Jefferson defeated Michigan City 17-13.
  • No. 10 Concord defeated Jimtown 49-28.

CLASS 4A

  • No. 1 New Palestine did not play. Next game: Sept 6 at Yorktown.
  • No. 2 Bishop Chatard defeated Hanover Central 28-7.
  • No. 3 Evansville Reitz defeated Vincennes Lincoln 30-6.
  • No. 4 NorthWood lost to Portage 19-16.
  • No. 5 Greenfield-Central defeated Greensburg 35-0.
  • No. 6 Leo defeated Angola 28-13.
  • No. 7 New Prairie defeated Goshen 56-0.
  • No. 8 Mishawaka defeated Penn 27-7.
  • No. 9 East Noble lost to Fort Wayne Snider 35-10.

  • No. 6 Monroe Central defeated Union City 57-25.
