No. 1 Brownsburg bounces back after slow start to rout Zionsville 66-28 | Operation Football

Brownsburg moves to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference following Friday night's win.

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Brownsburg's undefeated season rolled on after a convincing win over Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Zionsville on Friday night.

The game wasn't a cakewalk for the Class 6A No. 1 Bulldogs, however, as the Eagles came out of the gate hot. After receiving the opening kickoff, Zionsville's first drive was stalled and the Eagles were forced to punt early.

Fortunately for the home team, the Eagles' defense quickly forced a Brownsburg fumble and came up with a huge recovery. That's when Zionsville's offense started marching down the field. An 11-yard pass from senior quarterback Zachary Trent to junior running back Sam Manna put the Eagles up by 7 midway through the first quarter.

Brownsburg's fumbling problems continued on the ensuing kickoff. Zionsville recovered once again, leading to another quick score when Trent found Eugene Hilton for a 7-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 14-0.

Later, Brownsburg senior Nolan Wilson scored the first touchdown of the night for the Bulldogs. The first quarter came to an end with the Class 6A No. 1 trailing Zionsville.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, this would be the final time they would hold the lead.

Early in the second quarter, Brownsburg sophomore quarterback Oscar Frye tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Alvin Robinson to tie things up at 14. Brownsburg then went on to score three more touchdowns while Zionsville only scored one.

At halftime, Brownsburg led 35-21.

Out of the half, the Bulldogs stayed hot and continued to score on the Eagles. After scoring 21 points in the first half, Zionsville could only muster a single touchdown in the entire second half while Brownsburg scored 31.

With the win, Brownsburg's stranglehold on the Hoosier Crossroads conference grew stronger with the Bulldogs now sitting with a 5-0 conference record and 7-0 overall record. Zionsville falls to 2-3 in conference play, but is still ahead of Noblesville and Avon in the standings.
