INDIANAPOLIS — The head coach of the Southport girls basketball team has tendered his resignation less than a week after the conclusion of the 2023-24 IHSAA girls basketball season.

Adam Morelock took over the Cardinals' girls basketball program in 2018 after two previous seasons serving as the head coach of the Western High School girls basketball program in Kokomo. Morelock posted an 8-39 record in two seasons at Western.

In a statement released on Southport athletics social media pages, Morelock said after much consideration that the time had come for him to move on from coaching and into the next stage of his career in education.

Morelock cited his desire to complete his administration license as his main reasoning for his resignation.

Southport girls basketball finished their most recent season with a 2-20 record. Morelock posted a 48-111 record in seven seasons as head coach.
