Lawrence North basketball coach Jack Keefer was honored before Friday's game.
The school dedicated their gymnasium in honor of the only boys' basketball coach they've ever known. Keefer is in his 40th season coaching the Wildcats.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett was also on hand to proclaim Friday "Jack Keefer Day" in the city and the coach was honored with a Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
Many of Keefer's former players lined the court for the pregame ceremony. He has won 736 games (including Friday night's win over Center Grove) and four state championships in four decades on the sidelines. His win total places him second in the state among active coaches and only three coaches have ever won more games.
"It's the journey that you take and not the wins and losses and this has been a great journey," Keefer said before Friday's game.
In 2005-06, his Wildcats won the school's third straight state championship and were also named National Champions, the first Indiana school to take that honor. Lawrence North has also won state championships in 1989, 2004 and 2005.
Keefer, 72, coached for four years at his alma mater, Oak Hill High School, before opening Lawrence North in the fall of 1976. He graduated from Ball State University and earned a Master's degree from Indiana University.
