Savannah Bananas return to Victory Field

The Savannah Bananas have taken social media by storm in recent years, with circus-like entertainment and shenanigans.

INDIANAPOLIS — They say there's no crying in baseball, and fans proved that at Victory Field Thursday with plenty of smiles and laughs.

"The excitement, you can just hear it," one fan said.

Rather than a typical baseball game, the one played at "The Vic" mixed performance with sports. The Savannah Bananas have taken social media by storm in recent years, with circus-like entertainment and shenanigans. Some describe the performances as "the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball."

For three nights, the Bananas are in Indy, playing in front of sold-out crowds.

"I think people are ready to see something a little different. And what we've seen with our players is they have more fun than anyone else," Bananas owner Jesse Cole said. "Some people say it's a circus and a baseball game breaks out. But we're just trying to create the greatest show in sports."

Titled "Banana Ball," the rules of a typical baseball game are slightly changed to enhance fan experiences. Rules such as no bunting, a two-hour time limit and automatic outs if a fan catches a ball are all part of the fan experience.

Brad Borrowman traveled from Illinois to see the Bananas experience for himself.

"It's almost like a football tailgate atmosphere, and I love that," Borrowman said.

The Bananas are back at Victory Field Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29. The games start at 7 p.m. and are sold out. 13News checked third-party sites, and there are seats available, but most of them cost more than $100.
