13INside Track learns about radiofrequency ablation from the Center for Pain Management

Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure that uses heat to help stop pain.

INDIANAPOLIS — ARTICLE SPONOSRED BY THE CENTER FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT

It's a pain procedure you might not have heard of before. Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that decrease pain transmission.

"I find that most of my patients fall into two categories," Pain Management Specialist Dr. Ashley Tolbert told 13INside Track. "So they are either patients thay don't want joint replacements for whatever reason… Also another large group of patients that we see are the one in five patients that have a replacement continue to have pain."

Dr. Tolbert said that long, recurring pain is a great candidate for radiofrequency ablation.

The other upside to radiofrequency ablation treatment is the minimal downtime. Dr. Tolbert said most patients can be back on their feet the next day and the pain relief should last for 6 to 12 months.

Dr. Tolbert said knee pain treated with radiofrequency ablation treatment could be helped for as much as three years.
