Citizens Energy Group customers often wonder how they can conserve water and energy in their homes. Laura O'Brien, Corporate Communications Coordinator for Citizens Energy Group, shares "During these hot, dry times of weather, around 40-70% of all drinking water produced in central Indiana is used for lawn irrigation. That can create high demand on the system and cause water main breaks. It can also cause customer's bills to be higher."

Tips to conserve water, energy, and save on your bills:

  • Make sure you have a full load when running your washing machine or dishwasher.
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
  • Try to keep showers to 5 minutes or less.
  • Check all faucets and toilets for leaks.
  • Turn down the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees to save on water heating bills without sacrificing comfort.

Tips to make water irrigation more efficient:

  • Limit lawn watering to twice a week.
  • Do not water your lawn during the heat of the day.
  • Watch the weather to avoid watering your lawn while it's raining.
