Citizens Energy Group customers often wonder how they can conserve water and energy in their homes.
Laura O'Brien, Corporate Communications Coordinator for Citizens Energy Group said there's a lot Hoosiers can do to cut down on water usage.
"You don't have to spend a lot of money or have a lot of gear to do so," O'Brien said. "There are a lot of little changes you can make that can have a big impact on your water and energy usage and your bills."
Tips to conserve water, energy, and save on your bills:
- Make sure you have a full load when running your washing machine or dishwasher.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
- Try to keep showers to 5 minutes or less.
- Check all faucets and toilets for leaks.
- Turn down the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees to save on water heating bills without sacrificing comfort.
- Water your lawn
Tips to make water irrigation more efficient:
- Limit lawn watering to 2 times per week.
- Do not water your lawn during the heat of the day. "Up to 30% of the water that you're using could be lost to evaporation. The best time to water your lawn is between 4p and 7p."
- Watch the weather to avoid watering your lawn while it's raining.
- Install technology. "A rain sensor will shut off the system if it starts raining. A moisture sensor will tell you whether you even need to be watering your lawn or not."
