It can be difficult and emotional when loved ones slow down or become more forgetful. Janean Kinzie, ASC's Vice President of Social Wellness & Life Enrichment, shares tips for recognizing the signs and identifying next steps for care.

"Most often we think about confusion. But what we really want to pay attention to is confusion in familiar situations. So, if you find that your loved one can't find the coffee, and they make coffee every day, that would be something that could alert you to a problem."

Other signs of cognitive decline are changes in mood and behavior or neglect of self and home care. When noticing issues, Kinzie recommends consulting a medical provider.

ASC offers "excellent memory care with well-trained staff that know how to respond to some of these changes in mood and behavior and excellent activities that are designed to help people with dementia stay as active as possible."
