UIndy hosting virtual class ahead of total solar eclipse

The class is open to the community and "will explore the science, history, literature, and even cultural impact of solar eclipses through human history."

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Indianapolis announced a new class to prepare people for the total solar eclipse coming to central Indiana in April.

The class, "Discover Together: Eclipses," is open to the community and "will explore the science, history, literature and even cultural impact of solar eclipses through human history," the university said.

Each week of the class will have a structure similar to a book club, with a set of resources and suggested activities to read and watch.

Topics such as scientific discoveries connected to solar eclipses and Indiana's earliest recorded eclipse will be covered, and the class will help participants make a plan for "a safe and enjoyable eclipse experience" on Monday, April 8.

The virtual class begins the week of Jan. 16 and continues through the week of April 29, and costs $10, with fee waivers available for high schools students and those with financial need.

Registration is open through Feb. 10, or until the class fills up with 400 students. To register or for more information, click here.
