INDIANAPOLIS — Fans in attendance at the Indy Classic on Saturday got a chance to see a special paint scheme on an Indy-car celebrating the upcoming total solar eclipse.
Located in the lobby of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Purdue University, a presenting sponsor of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's viewing party, unveiled the livery as a tribute to the 27 NASA astronauts who graduated from Purdue as well as the school's motorsports engineering program.
The university felt that Purdue's game against No. 1 Arizona was the perfect time for the show car's public debut.
April 8, 2024, will mark the first time in 819 years that a total solar eclipse will be visible in Indianapolis. Another 129 years will pass before the city will see another.
Tickets are on sale for IMS' viewing party, and can be found on their website.
