The eerie video shows the Grim Reaper towering over the Golden Gate Bridge in a red cloak while peering down at cars crossing the bridge.
Light rain falls across the gloomy landscape.
In its first 24 hours on Instagram, the animation gathered more than nine million views and counting.
The video had social media users both amazed and a little terrified.
