INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Peloton is standing its ground after receiving backlash for its holiday ad asking consumers to "give the gift of Peloton."

The ad features a seemingly fit woman whose husband gives her a Peloton bike for Christmas. The woman then documents her experience with the bike through a series of vlogs. At the end, the woman and her husband watch the video together showing how the bike changed her life.

Critics said the ad made it seem as if the husband gifted her the bike because he wanted her to lose weight, event though she was thin to begin with.

Peloton has responded to the criticism, saying they're "disappointed in how some have misinterpreted the commercial."

"We constantly hear from our members how their lives have been meaningfully and positively impacted after purchasing or being gifted a Peloton Bike or Tread," the company told CNBC. "We are encouraged by — and grateful for — the outpouring of support we've received from those who understand what we were trying to communicate."

Peloton also provided PDF documents of positive responses to the commercial.

Although the company's shares went down after its response to the backlash, experts don't believe there will be a long-lasting sting.
