Meteor captured on dashboard camera Thursday morning in Texas

Commuters in Central Texas got a treat Thursday morning as multiple reports came in about a meteor crossing the sky.

AUSTIN, Texas (WTHR) — Commuters and skywatchers in Central Texas got a treat early Thursday morning.

A fireball was seen across the Central Texas sky as commuters made their way to work.

One motorist captured the meteor's descent on his dashboard camera at 5:36 a.m. while driving down State Highway 71.

The space rock hit the atmosphere, illuminating into a bright blue light before finally disappearing from sight.

The American Meteor Society received more than 38 reports of the meteor across the "Lone Star" state.

It was spotted as far north as Oklahoma City and as far east as Eastern Louisiana.

Meteors typically enter the atmosphere at speeds of up to 160,000 miles per hour.
