Indianapolis, May 7 - Although Indianapolis homicide detectives admit that their suspect was trying to get answers to the question of the victim's pregnancy, they won't confirm if she indeed was pregnant.

Detectives believe that not answering that question cost Tasha Winters her life.

Detectives say the 16-year-old Winters left Broad Ripple High School with her accused killer the morning of her death.

Police arrested 17-year-old Jarvis Johnson on a murder charge. Johnson is a junior at Arlington High School where he's been in trouble and even suspended.

Investigators say Johnson drove Winters to an alley in south Indianapolis to interrogate her. They say he wanted answers about her being pregnant.

According to witnesses, she refused to talk about it.

IPD Sgt. Mark Prater says, "Person arrested was trying to pursue if she was pregnant or not. He was trying to find that out. There was made mention to family members of his that she was pregnant. But there was no answer given to him."

Detective Prater could not confirm if Winters was expecting a baby.

But he does expect prosecutors to charge Johnson as an adult.

The prosecutors' office plans to file formal charges against Johnson by the end of the week.

Police have not located the pistol used to kill Tasha Winters. But detectives say they have strong witnesses in this case, including someone who says they saw the two in the alley the morning she was killed.
