Rich Van Wyk

Rich Van Wyk has almost 40 years of experience in the Channel 13 newsroom. He began his career with Eyewitness News as a college intern. Since then he has worked as an assignment editor, news producer, the producer of our race coverage and other special events.
As a reporter Rich has covered more than 3 decades of Indianapolis news, from politics and education, crime and urban development, to natural disasters and community celebrations.
He has won 5 regional Emmys. The most recent award-winning work documented the increasing use of drones, the lack of regulations their threat to personal privacy. Rich has also received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award as well as numerous awards from the, Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists and other organizations. He has been recognized for special reports on the rising costs of college educations, the pressure many high school athletes are under to obtain athletic scholarships, and natural disasters. He is a recipient of the Indianapolis Education Association Human Rights award for Outstanding Leadership In Communications.
Rich grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Butler University. He and his wife Juli have three daughters. Rich enjoys playing with power tools in the never-ending effort to renovate their older Indianapolis home. He's also a deacon and an elder in their Presbyterian Church.
