INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is skyrocketing up the polls as he continues his presidential campaign.
The young Hoosier is in a crowded field of Democratic candidates, but that has not stopped him.
Tuesday morning, "TODAY" aired an exclusive interview with the mayor and host Craig Melvin.
Buttigieg spoke on topics like his political experience, taking on President Donald Trump and how he will resonate with black voters across the nation.
Prior to the interview hitting the air, WTHR's Ben Hill spoke with Melvin about the sit-down. Melvin said more than anything else, Buttigieg's temperament struck him.
"He's a guy that I have a hard time imagining raising his voice, using profanity," Melvin said. "It's striking in this day and age where there is so much noise."
Addressing some critiques that Buttigieg does not answer questions about policy as much as his opponents, Melvin said Buttigieg's knowledge of policy also struck him.
"There is not a policy question that he does not appear to be prepared to answer," Melvin said.
