Does your hometown match your political beliefs?
Clarity Campaign Labs, a political data analytics company, compiled the data to create
that lets you figure out which city most closely matches your beliefs.
then took that underlying data to
showing the most liberal and conservative cities in each state.
The online tool provides seven statements and then asks whether you agree or disagree with those statements:
- I identify with the Democrats more so than the Republicans.
- Abortion should be legal and accessible to all women.
- I attend religious services regularly.
- Climate change is an immediate concern that must be addressed.
- There should be more restrictions on purchasing and carrying guns.
- The government should reduce the deficit primarily by raising taxes rather than cutting services.
- I prefer urban areas.
You then choose which state you currently live in or would like to move to, and it gives you the five cities that most closely match your beliefs.
Clarity told Business Insider the questions about urban areas and church attendance were not included in the score used to indicate whether a community was liberal or conservative. Aside from those two questions, indicating agreement with any of the other queries was considered liberal.
As you may have guessed, many of the "blue" cities are either major urban areas or college towns. It may surprise you then that neither Indianapolis nor Bloomington were chosen as Indiana's most liberal community. That title went to Gary, Indiana. Craigville in northeast Indiana was named the state's most conservative town.
