LOGANSPORT, Ind. (Pharos-Tribune) - A 19-year-old has announced plans to run for Logansport City Council as a Republican in the upcoming municipal election.
Jonathan Nelms says he is ready to jumpstart his career by getting involved local politics.
Nelms, incumbent councilman at-large Matt Meagher and 25-year-old Logansport native Jake LeDonne are currently running for the Council's two at-large seats. The top two vote-getters among at-large candidates in the general election win the at-large seats. Current councilman at-large Terry Doran recently announced his bid for the mayor’s office in June.
“My reason for running for city council at-large is simple — I love Logansport and I want success here,” Nelms said. “I want success for generations to come.”
If elected, a key priority area for Nelms will be economic development.
“We will make sure to attract strong, better-paying jobs in here,” Nelms said. “We also need to support the local jobs that are already available to the community.”
Nelms currently works for the Cass County Family Y and plans to attend Ivy Tech’s Logansport campus this fall.
