Candidate Name: Linda Ivey

Running for: Center Township Trustees Office

Issues:

Redeveloping the neighborhood is not the same as feeding, clothing and sheltering the most vulnerable among us. Center Township Trustees priorities need to be changed and refocused on:

I. Spending money on people and not on buildings.

Is Mr. Drummer failing when it comes to maximizing the economic return on township assets?

A. Paid $400K on Julia Carson Center and invested $5M to renovate. Only 1 of its 7 floors is being used for township purposes.

B. The old Fall Creek YMCA has questionable utility.  The sport facilities are leased to a members-only health club.  Most of its 100 dormitory rooms and apartments remain empty.  But there are great plans:  $1.8M was appropriated in 06' budget to move the sewer lines (the whole facility cost only $1.5M).  Purpose:  Create space for new development such as a bank and a fast food restaurant are envisioned.

II. Eliminating wasteful spending and minimizing township government to where we aren't spending close to $3 in administrative costs to every $1 spent on direct assistance?

Are we being fiscally responsible with our tax payers money at a time when they are being told their property taxes will increase in the future to pay for public safety and increase cost to educate our children?

  • A. Center Township has no debt! Why does it have a several million dollar surplus when people are having their heat shut off! Why are we reading in the newspapers how the quality of life in Indianapolis is eroding as vagrancies increase downtown and in our parks?
  • B. Why does Center Township spend millions on buildings, own 6 township vehicles, and have a staff of 19 people for security? Obviously, there is money for emergency assistance, why aren't the poor receiving it?

When elected on November 7th, I will become guardian of your tax dollars and will make better use of those dollars now being spent on township assistance by doing the following:

  • 1. Design and implement a training program for my staff on how to provide the best customer service to our citizens in order to make sure their needs are being served with empathy, and they are being treated with respect and dignity.
  • 2. Utilize our resources more effectively so we will never by plagued by scandal and/allegations of mismanagement.
  • 3. Market our services more effectively by planning and strategically locating neighborhood branches in order to make our services and programs more accessible.
  • 4. Implement efficient internal processes in order to establish accountability for every tax dollar we are spending.
