Candidate: Jeffrey D. Bennett

Running for: Warren Township Trustee

Party: Democratic

Issues:

As Township Trustee, Jeff will:

• Stop wasteful township spending and implement a long-term plan to pay off the township government's debt;

• Work in partnership with city and community leaders to strengthen our neighborhoods and bring new jobs and investment to the eastside;

• Make township government more efficient and cost effective, bringing improved public safety to the people of Warren Township at a lower cost.

Biographical information:

Since joining Mayor Bart Peterson's administration in 2001, Jeff Bennett has worked to strengthen economic development efforts and improve the quality of life in Warren Township and neighborhoods throughout the city.

Currently serving as the city's Assistant Administrator for Community Economic Development, Jeff has been one the administration's leading advocates for community-based redevelopment. Jeff has helped lead the Mayor's charge to shut down the troubled Indy East motel, one of the Eastside's worst crime hotspots.

To assist neighborhoods challenged with blighted, vacant houses and commercial buildings, Jeff pushed for innovative legislation that allows cities across the state to speed-up the redevelopment process for abandoned properties. Thanks to strong neighborhood support, the law passed at the Statehouse during the 2006 General Assembly.

While serving as the Mayor's Warren Township Administrator from 2001 to 2003, Jeff worked as the township's liaison to city services and spent his time reaching out to neighborhoods and supporting community revitalization efforts.

To support business growth in Warren Township, Jeff assembled a workgroup of elected officials, residents and business leaders to create focused economic development strategies to create jobs and spur Eastside investment. The efforts of the workgroup led to the creation of the Eastside Revitalization District, which has resulted in more than $11 million in new investment along Washington Street.

Jeff is a graduate of Indiana University.

Family information:

Jeff lives in Irvington with his wife, Megan, and their daughter, Gillian.
