INDIANAPOLIS (Statehouse File) - As Rep. Todd Rokita launches his bid for Joe Donnelly's Senate seat, a senior advisor to Mike Pence during his time as governor plans to run for Rokita's seat in the House.

Army veteran Diego Morales announced his campaign Thursday, one day after Rokita announced his candidacy for Senate.

Morales was an infantryman in the U.S. Army for more than six years before joining Pence’s staff.

"What I've learned is that my fellow Hoosiers want someone with an understanding of national security who shares their conservative values and is guided by faith," Morales said in a statement. "As an Army veteran, I will stand firm in supporting President Trump and Vice President Pence’s vision for a stronger America where our families can grow and prosper."

Diego was born in Guatemala before moving to and growing up in Sellersburg, Indiana. There, he graduated from Silver Creek High School

Morales is a graduate of Indiana University, received his MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University and his Master’s of International Business Administration from Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

Morales is currently the chief business development officer for The Sodrel Holding Company, Inc., and is an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College.

"As your next U.S. Representative, I promise to help us find new, more-efficient ways to make it easier for businesses to grow and create jobs," he said in a statement. "I will always work to cut taxes because I believe the government has enough of our money and should learn to live within its means."
