INDIANAPOLIS — The upcoming 2024 election is starting to take shape.
More than 1,500 delegates at the Democratic Party State Convention chose from four nominees for lieutenant governor on Saturday, July 13.
Terry Goodin was gubernatorial candidate Jennifer McCormick's preferred pick for running mate, and almost 80% of the delegates voted to confirm her choice.
"Hoosier hospitality must extend to everyone and not just some folks. The growing forces in this state are the forces of common human decency — not the forces of bigotry and hate," Goodin said.
Destiny Wells won more than two-thirds of the delegate votes to become the Democratic nominee for Indiana Attorney General.
"The current Attorney General is everywhere he's not supposed to be, right? He is in our doctor's offices, scaring off our health care providers from wanting to even practice here," Wells said. "We already suffer from maternity and caregiving deserts, thanks to the statehouse super majority. Do you see why this is our time?"
Indiana Democrats have their candidates for the November election, but the real challenge will be overcoming the fact that no Democrat has won a statewide elected office in 12 years.
