If he wins the Democratic primary, he will run against incumbent Republican Rep. Larry Bucshon. Bucshon is in his fourth term serving the southwest and central west areas of Indiana including Evansville and Terre Haute.

Tanoos, who works in Terre Haute as a disability attorney, said he was running to protect the middle class

"It's clear to most everyone that those currently in Congress have lost their way," he said in a press release. "They no longer work for the working families in their communities, but instead for the special interests that have come to define Washington."

Tanoos graduated from South Vigo High School. He also graduated cum laude from Indiana University with concentrations in history and political science and earned his law degree from IU’s McKinney School of Law.

"Together, we can rebuild the middle class and support working Hoosiers who have proven to be the backbone of this great country," Tanoos said. "That's what families all around our state have valued and relied on for generations and we have no intention of letting it go without a fight."

Tanoos and his wife, Katie, have an 11-month-old son, Jack, and a dog, Truman. They are members of St. George Orthodox Christian Church.
