East Chicago, Nov. 22 - Shooting suspect Kenya Wright's run from the law came to an abrupt end 1:30 Tuesday morning.
Indianapolis Police launched an all out manhunt following the shooting of Officer Michael Antonelli. He was shot in the face and lost an eye.
IPD Chief Michael Spears says, "No one is going to get away with injuring an Indianapolis Police officer."
Antonelli stopped Wright in the 900 block of North Dearborn Sunday night just before ten o'clock. The officer says he failed to use a turn signal.
During the traffic stop Antonelli and Wright scuffled. Wright reportedly fired five times, striking the officer in the face.
Officer Larry Wheeler responded to Antonelli's call for help first. "He was kind of sitting crotched and I said, 'Michael, where is he?' And he looked up at me and I could see the ruin in his face and I was shocked and speechless for a second."
As Wheeler told Antonelli everything would be alright arriving officers searched for his shooter.
But police say Wright called for a ride to East Chicago immediately after the shooting.
Federal and local law enforcement were determined to apprehend their suspect no matter what.
FBI Agent in Charge Keith Lourdau says he was "confident we would find him."
Tim Foley adds, "The minute this went down the wheels started turning."
Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi announced attempted murder, aggravated battery, resisting law enforcement and other charges against Wright.
He's going for the maximum penalty. "The total of that is 54 years."
As Antonelli recovers, police say the wheels of justice are just beginning to turn for his accused shooter.
