Indianapolis, March 18 -  There's a new exhibit at the Children's Museum that's blowing visitors away.

It's called "fireworks of glass".

Art,  like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

"It looks like snakes," said Robert Hanely.

What you see has a lot to do with experience and perspective.

"I went to Italy over the summer and it reminds me of when they showed us how to make glass," said Emily Higgins.

They are innocent of mind and small in stature but the hundreds of visitors to the Children's Museum Saturday appreciate the newest attraction.

A 43 foot tower of colorfully blown glass that appears to explode into the ceiling. It is appropriately named "Fireworks of Glass"

"It's really pretty," said Lauren Williams.

Another visitor Paige Weber said, "It's really cool. Glass and everything I can't believe someone could do this."

Renowned artists Dale Chilhuly is the mind behind the masterpiece. The largest permanent sculpture of his work ever created.

"There's people that go all over the country to see his work," said Pam Higgins.

Museum and state officials say it's one more reason to visit the Children's Museum which already contributes more than $58-million annually to local tourism.

Lt Gov Becky Skillman was on hand for the unvieling Saturday and said, "I think we just boosted our tourism efforts today."

The museum estimates 60 million families and 7 million students and teachers will view the "fireworks of glass" over the next 50 years.

Anya Hanley said, "I know when we're in Chicago we have people there talking about the Children's Museum here.  I think it's wonderful."

The beauty of art is the way it captures the imagination. The beauty of this sculpture is that it is now a permanent fixture for generations of eyes to behold.

Underneath the ceiling of "Fireworks of Glass" is a hands-on exhibit where visitors can create their own glass sculptures.
