PITTSBURGH — The 74-year-old man who was critically injured by the shooter who was targeting former President Donald Trump has been released from the hospital, according to NBC News.
James Copenhaver was shot twice at the rally July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In a statement, his family called his injuries "life-altering."
"The Copenhaver family would like to thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers and support as Jim and his family recover from this horrible, senseless and unnecessary act of violence,” it said.
According to Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Copenhaver was released on July 26.
He was one of three rallygoers shot during the assassination attempt.
Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed after diving over his wife and daughters to protect them when the shooting started.
David Dutch, 57, was also shot and has since been discharged. He left the hospital on July 24.
The gunman has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. He was killed by a Secret Service sharpshooter, according to investigators.
On Monday, Trump agreed to be interviewed by the FBI as part of their ongoing investigation into the assassination attempt. The FBI confirmed he was shot in the ear.
Last week, the director of the secret service resigned. Lawmakers criticized how ill-prepared the secret service was for the attack, and how ill-prepared the director seemed for her congressional testimony.
The House has created a bipartisan task force to investigate the assassination attempt further.
