Hoosiers travel to Washington to attend 'March for Israel'

Tuesday's march is meant to stand against antisemitism, call for the safe return of hostages and show solidarity with the Jewish community.

INDIANAPOLIS — This week, Hoosiers are headed to Washington, D.C. for a rally called the "March for Israel."

Tuesday's march is in response to the Israel-Hamas war. It's meant to stand against antisemitism, call for the safe return of hostages and show solidarity with the Jewish community.

Marc Swatez, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, said an estimated 250,000 people are expected to attend. That includes about 100 people from central Indiana who left for the nation's capital Monday morning.

"So we're going to going to march to remind the world that antisemitism isn't OK. What we're seeing — the increase of 400% in antisemitism that we're experiencing right now — isn't about Israel anymore. This has become about being Jewish," Swatez said. "This march is really to demonstrate to the world that the Jewish community is not going to be afraid."

Tuesday's march starts at 1 p.m. on the National Mall.
