WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Nothing stops true love.
But a massive traffic backup on the Massachusetts Turnpike caused it to be delayed for one couple this week.
As Chris and Emma Aguilar prepared to be wed Thursday, members of the groom's family — and his best man — ran into a roadblock. A truck rolled over in a construction zone, shutting down all lanes, trapping hundreds of motorists for nearly two hours.
Boston TV station WCVB flew over the traffic backup, watching truck drivers break out their lawn chairs and bored kids turning to chalk art, but what really caught their eye was the Aguilars' wedding party standing on the highway.
"My mom and dad, my grandmother, my aunts, everyone who came from my side of the family was stuck for two hours in traffic," Chris Aguilar said.
Stuck on Interstate 90, Aguilar's father, Jose, and his aunts Maggie and Elsa made the best of the situation, documenting the wedding-day mishap for the family record.
Back at the wedding venue, the soon-to-be newlyweds tried to stall.
"We were panicking a little bit. We were going plan A, plan B, plan C, plan D," Aguilar said. "But we had great wedding coordinators who really helped us out and really reorganized everything."
In the end, the wedding was a little late, but worth waiting for — and definitely a story to laugh about on the honeymoon.
The Aguilars said they're heading to Mexico for that honeymoon — and they don't plan on taking the Massachusetts Turnpike.
