SEATTLE — Washington residents can now change their gender designation on their license or identification card to read "X."

"X" will be an additional designation to "M" for male and "F" for female.

The Department of Licensing said the third gender option ensures all residents have IDs that reflect their gender identity, WLTX reported.

Anyone is able to change the gender on their identification to reflect "X," and the designation will not affect validity of the REAL ID Act when it goes into effect Oct. 1, 2020.
