One of the last remaining survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis has passed away.
95-year-old Arthur Leenerman died Monday in Illinois. He was 21 years old when the ship sank after getting torpedoed by a Japanese submarine.
"After about the second day I didn't really know what was going on. I was truly out of it," he told Eyewitness News at the USS Indianapolis reunion in 2008.

Leenerman said he heard a plane flying overhead but he was one of the last to be rescued.
"I found out later they didn't pick me up because they thought I was dead," he said.
He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he suffered in the attack and ordeal at sea.
There are only 11 remaining survivors of the attack.
