NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida (WESH) - A 9-year-old girl is recovering after she was bitten by a shark in Florida Friday morning.
Maggie Crum and her family were visiting New Smyrna Beach.
Maggie, her two sisters and parents were playing in knee-deep water when the 9-year-old felt something grab hold of her leg.
She says the shark bit into the lower part of her leg, but then quickly let go. "It stung then it also burned and it like grasped but then like let go really, really quick," she told NBC affiliate WESH.
Her mom took Maggie to the hospital and she needed a dozen stitches to close the cuts.
The 9-year-old is in good spirits.
This is the tenth shark bite so far this year in Volusia County.
