PALMDALE, Calif. (WTHR) - A stretch of California highway will pay tribute to R. Lee Ermey both in name and in song.

Stars and Stripes reports a stretch of road in Palmdale, California known as "Avenue N" will be renamed in honor of the late actor and Marine Corps veteran in a ceremony November 10.

His family is raising money to help pay for street signs and memorial plaques to line the 7-mile stretch of road, which will have a unique (and pretty awesome) feature. Grooves in the road will play the Marines' Hymn as cars drive over the roadway.

There are several roads that "play music" when driven upon around the world, including one in New Mexico, which plays "America the Beautiful."

Ermey, who died in April at the age of 74, served 11 years in the Marines, including 14 months in Vietnam and Okinawa, before becoming nationally known for his performance in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" in 1987. He lived off Avenue N for the past 24 years, Stars and Stripes reported.
