ORLANDO, Fla. (WTHR) — The Orlando Police Department will open an internal investigation after an officer arrested 6-year-old and 8-year-old children Thursday.
WESH reports Officer Dennis Turner was working as a school resource officer when he arrested the two students. He did so without the department's required approval of a watch commander. The policy instructs officers to seek watch commander approval for all arrests for people under the age of 12.
Police didn't explain the circumstances that led up to the arrests, but did say the acts the kids were accused of were misdemeanors.
The 8-year-old was processed at a juvenile center before being released to family, and the 6-year-old was never processed and went back to school, WESH reports.
