INDIANAPOLIS — Ben Davis grad Lauren Cheney Holiday and her husband, NBA star Jrue Holiday, are starting a social justice fund that will focus on several cities, including Indianapolis.
Lauren is retired from the U.S. Women's National Soccer team.
She and her husband, who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, wanted to do something to support the Black Lives Movement.
Lauren suggested he donate his salary from his time playing in the NBA bubble, which is about $5.3 million.
The couple was on the Today Show Thursday to talk about the move. Lauren said they wanted to rebuild businesses and education.
"Just helping wherever we could," she said. "I think we've made pledges, New Orleans, Louisiana, Los Angeles and Indianapolis, just because they're close to our hearts."
The Holidays also donated to 10 other cities and will be giving the money to black-owned businesses and organizations.
