DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (WTHR) — What was supposed to be a fun night at a hotel nearly turned into a deadly situation over the weekend for a family in Florida.
A toddler had to be revived after being underwater for more than two minutes in a hotel's hot tub.
Even though he survived, police say the 3-year-old boy isn't out of danger yet. He remains in serious condition at a local hospital.
Surveillance cameras show the toddler and his twin brother, who is wearing floaties, get into the hot tub with strangers who didn't see them.
Police say the mother of the two boys was sitting at a table some distance away. She was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and was arrested for child neglect.
"I was definitely watching my son," said Apryl Connolly. "I turned around for two seconds. I have twins," she said.
"This is a 3-year-old child that can't look out for themselves," said Daytona Beach Shoes Police Chief Stephan Dembinsky. "These are parents with twins and somebody should have been watching that child at all times."
Police say that Connolly admitted to drinking, smoking marijuana and taking pain killers before her son nearly drowned.
