MASON, Ohio (WTHR) — Kings Island has big news for thrill seekers.
The theme park is adding a new ride that will be the tallest, fastest and longest steel roller coaster in the park.
The ride is called Orion, and it will be one of only seven giga coasters — roller coasters having a height or drop of 300-399 feet — in the world.
The ride takes riders on a 300-foot drop before a race through hills, twists and turns along the 5,321-foot track. The ride reaches a top speed of 91 mph.
The announcement comes as the park celebrates National Roller Coaster Day, Aug. 16. Kings Island is offering a special deal through Sunday where thrill seekers can buy a 2020 Gold Pass and get unlimited visits to the park in 2019 and 2020, and a free Fast Lane Plus pass.
After Sunday, Aug. 18, Gold Pass prices will return to normal.
Roller coaster design company Bolliger and Mabillard designed the coaster. The Switzerland-based company is also responsible for popular Kings Island rides Diamondback and Banshee.
